This Week at Book Riot

January 16, 2015 |

Here’s a look at what I tackled over on Book Riot this week…

  • If you’re wondering what series books are continuing or launching in 2015 for YA, then you’ll want to use this list. It’s long, but I tried organizing it by on-going and new series, as well as by rough publication date. (I actually thought it would be a lot longer, especially for new series).
  • This week’s “3 On A YA Theme” is all about YA books with candy on the cover, in honor of National Candy Month.

This Week at Book Riot

January 9, 2015 |

This week over at Book Riot, I wrote a few things:

  • Here’s the big, huge, not-little-at-all preview of YA books coming out between January and March. I’m doing these round-ups quarterly, so I can have more depth and variety.
  • This week’s “3 On A YA Theme” covers 3 non-fiction titles and 3 fiction titles featuring trans* teen experiences and lives.
  • I wrote about the best of bookish Portlandia, one of my favorite shows, featuring one of my favorite leading ladies, Carrie Brownstein.
Also on Book Riot, I talked about my favorite book of December in our monthly Roit Round-up, which was Melanie Crowder’s Audacity:
And finally, the Book Riot Podcast announced that there will be a Quarterly YA Box, with subscriptions opening in February and first boxes shipping in April. More info soon, but I’m getting to curate it and I am very excited.

This Week Around The Web

December 19, 2014 |

This week over at Book Riot. . .

  • I talked about “boy books” and “girl books” and how those gendered divisions are silly and difficult to make in light of what Amazon said were their top 20 selling children’s/YA books this year.
  • This week’s “3 On A YA Theme” is about 3 YA books that feature characters who have disabilities.
  • Women in fiction deserve better and they deserve better than just the Bechdel Test, or, why don’t we have better tools and ways to talk about how females are written in fiction?
Kimberly made an awesome infographic for her library this week that we have to share, since it’s probably of interest to lots of our readers:
You can see the bigger version and save it/share it from here.

This Week at Book Riot

December 12, 2014 |

Over at Book Riot this week . . .
  • 3 On A YA Theme features three books that are set in Africa.
  • I rounded-up tons and tons of fun bookish socks, if you’re looking for some stocking stuffers or something fun to wear on your own feet.

This Week on Book Riot & The Book Smugglers

December 6, 2014 |

This week, Kimberly and I were part of The Book Smuggler’s annual Smugglivus celebration. We took the prompt a little differently this year, talking about 3 of our favorite books from this year, 3 books we’re eager to read next year, and then we picked 3 books we read this year that we think each other should read. Here’s what our picks are!

Over at Book Riot this week…

  • After writing a little bit about the cover redesign for Anne of Green Gables over here as part of my Toronto International Book Fest post, I had to look at other designs of the classic. Here are 6 different takes on the book’s cover — each unique and reaching a different audience.
  • I put together a “starting/ending” post for YA in 2014. These are the books that people who want to catch up on their 2014 YA reading should check out, the books I think would be solid gifts for a YA reader, and what I think sort of depicted what YA looked like in 2014. This is a different take on the “best of,” so there’s some popular titles and some that were a little more under-the-radar.
