This Week at Book Riot

March 6, 2015 |

I don’t think I mentioned it here, but I’m now working full-time for Book Riot. I had been there part-time, and this week, I made the transition to going full-time. I haven’t worked a single full-time job since 2011 — I’ve been doing the freelance thing alongside part-time work and other side gigs — so the change over has been interesting. This shouldn’t impact anything here at Stacked, since there’s always plenty to write about, but it has shifted my schedule and energy a bit, so I’m working on readjusting and acclimating to a new routine.

Here’s a look at what I wrote over on Book Riot this week…

  • 13 More Great Bookish Prints for Your Wall. I put together a round-up of bookish prints last month, and then I found more I thought were worth sharing. I’m really into the ampersand.

  • This week’s 3 On A YA Theme was all about mythological retellings. All three I highlighted are written by women of color.
In the monthly Riot Round-up, where everyone can talk about their favorite read from the month, I talked about Elana K. Arnold’s fantastic Infandous. This is a little tiny book but it packs a punch. Elana will be here later this month with a knock-out guest post, too.

This Week at Book Riot

February 20, 2015 |

Here’s a look at what I wrote about this week over at Book Riot:
  • I opened up about having depression and how getting treatment for it changed my reading life.
  • For this week’s “3 On A YA Theme,” I talked about 3 YA stories I’d love to read based on teens from the movies. And it includes some opinions about Chrissy from Now & Then, as well as how I envision Tracy Flick from Election growing up into Leslie Knope.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks putting together the contents for the first Book Riot YA Quarterly Box and I’m so excited about how it’s shaping up. This is going to be fun. If you have been thinking about subscribing, here’s how you can.

This Week at Book Riot

February 6, 2015 |

So this is actually two weeks of work at Book Riot, since I was out of town last week.

  • The big, exciting news is that the YA Quarterly Box is now open for subscriptions! $50 gets you a box each quarter, filled with YA Books, as well as awesome bookish goodies. Here are the details, as well as how to sign up.  I am so excited to be curating this!
  • Last week’s 3 On A YA Theme was all about YA books where tattoos play a role in the story.
  • For this week’s 3 On A YA Theme, I talked about 3 YA books hitting the big screen very soon. Did you know Patricia McCormick’s Sold was being made into a movie? Me either.

This Week at Book Riot

January 23, 2015 |

Here’s a look at this week’s posts over on Book Riot:

  • The YA Quarterly Box was officially announced! Here are details about the subscription box and how to get in on the mailing list for first-notice of when it opens for business.
  • This week’s 3 On A YA Theme is all about historical fiction in verse.
  • I wrote a little letter to feminists about why and how 2015 is the year of the feminist YA novel.
