This Week at Book Riot

May 20, 2016 |

book riot

Just one post over on Book Riot this week (but it was so fun to write and compile and if you know of other books that fit, please tell me):

  • More than 3 YA books on a theme with a round-up of YA books that have mathematical equations in their titles.  How fun a display would this be in a library or classroom?

And in reading this week . . .

book riot

I’ve been writing a ton over at Book Riot, but little has been up yet! So expect me to remember to link up over the next few weeks as those pieces come out.

In the meantime, here are the last couple of “3 On A YA Theme” posts!

  • In honor of Cinco de Mayo, a look at YA books set in Mexico. I hadn’t heard of that first one, since it’s a brand new book, and it looks really interesting!

  • YA books featuring high tech hijinks.

I thought it would be fun in these round-ups to share a snap of my current reading (perhaps inspired by writing about this very thing this week). So, here’s a peek:

It’s been busy behind the scenes at Book Riot, so only two posts from the last two weeks (so busy I apparently forgot to link through last Friday).

  • This week’s “3 On A YA Theme” was all about math lovers in YA fiction.

  • Last week’s “3 On A YA Theme” talked about homeschooling in YA fiction, with a little wondering why we see so many boarding school teens and so few who are home/alternately schooled.

Make this a round-up of the last two weeks at Book Riot! Last week, I had oral surgery, and following the aftercare instructions, I took their vicodin-laced pain reliever. I lost more than a single day of my life from that — and now I know it’s not the pain reliever for me. Which is to say, this is why there was no post last Friday and why today’s round-up is bigger than normal.

  • Why authors and other creative talent choosing to cancel their events in states like North Carolina because of LGBTQ hate bills are doing a huge disservice.

  • Here’s the round-up of YA books hitting shelves between April and June of this year. There are over 230 of them. This post about killed me.

  • For 3 On A YA Theme, books set in London…and a round-up of YA books centered around the Great San Francisco Earthquake (a curious microtrend right now!).

I also had the honor of being interviewed by writer Amparo Ortiz about Feminism for the Real World, librarianship, and what I’m working on right now. Check it out.

book riot

Because I completely blanked on rounding up my Book Riot work last week, consider this a two-week catch up of what I’ve written over there. There’s good reason for blanking: I went out of town and my head was spinning with details about that. I’ll write a bit more about one of the things I did in the near future since it’s book-related and now a permanent fixture in my life (ominous, much?). Also last week I finished up the hard edits on Feminism for the Real World, which I’m thrilled to say is now onto copyedits, meaning it’s one step closer to a finished book — I cannot, cannot wait to share this with readers because it is good.

  • 3 YA takes on William Shakespeare‘s plays

  • A literary tour of bookstores, libraries, and other bookish spots in Providence, Rhode Island

  • YA books that hit shelves in 1986 (please go enjoy that last cover, if nothing else!)

And finally…

100 must read ya books in verse

Dig into these 100 must-read YA books written in verse.
