This Week at Book Riot

November 29, 2019 |

I didn’t open my task keeper yesterday at all, thus today’s post is up a little later than usual because, well, I enjoyed a day of reading and marathoning Netflix. Cheers!

Here’s what’s happening on Book Riot this week…

  • Your ultimate guide to Harry Potter goods at Target!

  • The Available Reads extension hooks up your Goodreads account with your local library’s and will change your reading life.

  • Need some book puzzles?

  • Yes, lots of bookish goods stuff this week, as I’m deep in the midst of working on a couple of news pieces and need something lighter in between — bookish fridge magnets.

There’s also a brand new episode of Hey YA of reader requests! Eric and I offered book recommendations to nearly 20 listener-submitted questions and it was a blast.

Speaking of Hey YA:

You can catch Eric and I at The Book Stall in Winnetka, Illinois on February 25 at 6:30 pm for discussion of Eric’s latest book, as well as a LIVE Hey YA podcast recording. For Chicago readers in the city, it’s right off the Metra line, as well as just off the El.

Over on Book Riot this week….

  • Snap up some fun library stickers.

  • Books that’ll hit the public domain in 2020.

Over on Book Riot this week…

  • Laura Ruby’s Thirteen Doorways, Wolves Behind Them All hit me so, so hard. I dug into the importance of this book, Sicilian immigration, and Chicago in the 1940s.

  • Rad page tabs for your book or your planner.

Two new podcasts this week: I’m the cohost on All The Books, raving about a ton of great new releases this week, and on Hey YA, Eric and I dig into underrated YA from this last decade, as well as great books for Native American Heritage Month.

This Week at Book Riot

November 8, 2019 |

Over on Book Riot this week…

  • What trends have emerged in YA since the 2016 election? What do they say about today’s teens and their concerns?

  • How libraries are responding to changes in Macmillan’s ebook policies.

  • All of the awesome bookish goods at Modcloth.

  • If you can only read one book from your country, make it this one: a post inspired by an amazing Reddit thread.

  • Are readers more satisfied with their lives than nonreaders? A new study suggests so, but not without a number of caveats.

  • You’ll want to add these gorgeous book plates to your books.

This Week at Book Riot and Elsewhere…

November 1, 2019 |

It’s been a really busy week over on Book Riot:

  • A new study explores what parents deem acceptable censorship in public school books.

  • 20 must-read YA books with disabled characters.

  • The most popular under-the-books in US public libraries between July and September.

  • The perfect book sweatshirts for your cool weather reading.

  • There’s a new episode of Hey YA, and this week, Amanda Nelson guest hosts with me as we talk about adult-YA crossover titles, as well as our Swiss Army YA book recommendations. Tune in here.

Elsewhere:

  • Over on RA For All: Horror, I wrote about why teens love horror and how horror is such a mirror for the adolescent experience.
