48 Hour Book Challenge Update

June 9, 2012 |

Written by: Kelly on June 9, 2012.

And so I’m rounding the corner on the first half of the 48 hour book challenge. Here are my stats so far:

Hours read: 7
Hours spent social networking with other participants: 1/2 hour
Books finished: 4

Favorite read so far: Come See About Me — I wrote up a bit of a review on Goodreads, but I took about 6 pages of notes for a formal review. This book was so, so good.
Cups of tea consumed: 3 (I just realized I haven’t had any yet this morning, so I’m fixing that now)
Distractions: Sleep, going to the library, checking out the new self-swipe card reader at the post office, thinking about what sort of food to pick up at the grocery store
Things I hate about ereading: I can’t take my nook outside in the sun
Things I love about ereading: I can take my nook on the treadmill
Up next:

My husband is going out today, which means I have a solid 10+ hours of no distractions. So looking forward to them.

Since I bought my Kindle, I never use my nook.. !!! You're doing great, Kelly! Keep up the good work!

Ahaha. I think I would cry having to learn the quirks of a new ereader. This one is enough work in and of itself.

    Keep it up!
Are you not supposed to bring e-readers outside? I always have my kindle at the pool.

You definitely can! I think the Nook Color's design, though, makes it impossible to read in direct sunlight.

Aha! It must be the consumption of vast amounts of tea that makes you a voracious reader. I agree on the Nook– I have to have bright light in order to read it, but it can't come at the wrong angle. I have the e ink version, and have spent a lot of the weekend with my glasses off hoping my focus will be better. Sigh. Technology is always improving.

On the brightest setting, I still can't read it in the sun, so I've just foregone reading the nook outside 🙁

I need to read more Lois Duncan! I just finally read Killing Mr. Griffin last year – brought me back! Are you reading the original or one of the updated versions?

I read the original edition! You know, it's funny. I wasn't as impressed with it as I thought I might be. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't mind-blowing, either.

Hmmm . . . how was Choked? I hadn't heard of it, but the cover combined with the title made me do a double-take.

I was going to say my Nook is okay outside, but I have the Simple Touch. I do seem to read slower on it than paper, though. Odd.

Can't wait to catch up on CK Kelly Martin's books. I read her first one and really liked it. I wanted to get an ARC of her new dystopian from NetGalley, but Random House refused me!! Sigh.

Stranger With My Face has got to be one of the scariest Lois Duncan books, IMO.
